The Curriculum

As part of our broad and balanced curriculum, St. Vincent's actively promotes the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance to prepare our pupils  for, and develop an awareness of, life in modern Britain.

At St. Vincent’s we introduce children to phonics, reading and writing through the Read-Write-inc programme. As their skills develop the chidren are introduced to a range of exciting, effective and enjoyable themes that advance their skill, knowledge and understanding.

In maths, the children employ a range of techniques and strategies to strengthen and secure confidence in mathematics. In addition to a range of hands-on maths resources, e.g. Numicon,  we run weekly maths  Assertive Mentoring sessions to target gaps in understanding. In addition to this, 1stClass@Number is a booster programme the school uses in both KS1 and KS2.

All children are set individual targets for English and maths. However, the Non Negotiable targets listed below are general targets that must be met if pupils are to meet the age related standards for their year group.
